Customer science fuses the emotional and the analytical, the individual and the big picture, the past, the present, and the future. To create customer science, you need a pretty diverse group of people who approach and engage with the world around them in very different ways. Here’s a small example of the kind of folks who meet in the middle to make the magic happen.

When starting a project, I like to try to think like a client, to put myself in their situation as best as I can. When the role playing is over, I go back to being myself and do the best I can to deliver. The interesting part of my work day is switching between multiple languages (Thai, English, and Vietnamese, as I speak to myself sometimes) and multiple mindsets: business owner, client, customer, planner, etc. On a bad day, it might feel a bit dizzying, but on a good day, it feels like being on a roller coaster. Yeah, that good!
There is no single moment when you’re absolutely sure. That feeling makes you never stop trying to perfect yourself and helps keep things exciting.
When I’m not at dunnhumby, you can find me hanging out with friends, making some exciting film project that I never got a chance to do, reading movie scripts (not novels, I hate those). I realise by filling my special moments in life with the right quote from the right movie, it feels awesome. Here is the latest quote that I love, “To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, to draw closer, to find each other, and to feel. That is the purpose of life.” (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, 2013.)

I spend most of my days working with manufacturers, supporting them on utilising shopper insights that help them put the customer first in their strategic decisions. I support the manufacturers with deliverables within category management , promotions, brand plans, and new launches that help them to make profitable decisions for their business and Coop. Teamwork is an important part of my days, and working with different teams across several manufacturers and with Coop is one of the reasons I find my job so exciting.
I work with brilliant and engaged people in an international environment, and create value and better customer experiences. The tasks and projects are challenging and motivating, and I get to discover and employ insights hidden in customer data for some of the biggest FMCG brands in Norway. I get to build on my past experience as a brand manager in Orkla, and strengthen my knowledge about the dynamics in the FMCG market. dunnhumby is a people-oriented company that encourages you to be curious and passionate, and to think holistically and outside the box.
When I’m not at dunnhumby, you can find me travelling, scuba diving, skiing, or competing in a trivia battle with my PubQuiz team.

A typical day for me depends on what phase of the project we are in. At the start of the project there are numerous meetings with the Solutions/Markets teams on how they plan to personalise the shopping experience of customers. Since everything starts with data, we figure out what data is needed to turn plans into reality. This then leads to meetings with Client IT teams discussing the data requirements and explaining the different data elements with their linkages. Once the data is there, I finally work with my team of data developers to create data marts on top of which the algorithms created by Solutions teams run. It is a pretty critical state as data is the foundation of everything we do at dunnhumby.
While doing all of this through the day, there are coffee sessions with the team discussing different technologies as SAS, Exadata, Oracle, Hadoop et al. as well as some pretty close games of chess and carom. These things make a busy day seem like a normal one.
Everyone has a place in dunnhumby and the owners and managers know it’s our company as much as theirs. They care about us and help us to grow, learn new skill sets, and appreciate us and we can see that every day.
When I’m not at dunnhumby, you can find me painting landscapes on canvas or baking cakes.

It starts with a cup of coffee! After checking my e-mail, I usually turn to the database/statistics software I use every day. We have a work plan in place so I know what I should be working on today (data extraction, creating deliverables, QA, etc). As part of the Manufacturer Practice team, my focusses are around creating templates so that CPGs get the most benefit from our data analysis, supporting my client lead colleagues when they have questions, and making sure we're always adhering to dunnhumby best practices.
My favourite thing about working at dunnhumby is being part of a small team inside of a big company. Being a relatively small team is great because you get to know everybody, do all kinds of stuff, and really see the output of your work. Being part of a big company gives us the opportunity to meet lots of people, learn new ways of doing things, and travel!
When I’m not at dunnhumby, you can find me with my friends having a drink and dinner on a terrace, doing fun activities (water and amusement park, treasure hunt, etc.), or playing video games or watching TV on my couch with my two cats.
