Clive Humby
Chairman
After co-founding dunnhumby in 1989 Clive has concentrated on building solid relationships with the company’s clients through the development of their marketing and communications strategies.
This is combined with his other key role as the main strategist within dunnhumby that requires him to call on his vast experience of analysis and mathematical modelling, which when applied to its growing number of global clients is the bedrock of dunnhumby.
Prior to forming dunnhumby he was chief executive of a major market analysis business as well as being responsible for the development of a number of pioneering innovations in marketing segmentation and retail marketing (including the ACORN system) that have all helped to set dunnhumby apart from other analysis businesses.
In addition to his crucial role at dunnhumby Clive holds a number of positions within education including the Visiting Professor of Integrated Marketing at Northwestern University in Chicago and Visiting Professor at Cranfield University Business School in the UK.
Edwina Dunn
Chief Executive
Customer-centricity was the core principle behind the creation of dunnhumby and it is the continuing adherence to this by Edwina that has helped the company grow into a global customer science company.
Edwina’s previous experience as vice president of a market analysis company highlighted her pioneering approach as she was instrumental in developing a census-based consumer classification system that was used by retailers around the world for site location modelling.
The co-founding of dunnhumby in 1989 resulted in the company quickly attracting some major name clients before it caught the attention of Tesco which was looking to better understand its customers. The dunnhumby analysis of the data captured by the Tesco Clubcard loyalty programme, which launched in 1995, has become critical to the success of the retailer.
Edwina has guided dunnhumby into overseas markets including the US and France and has engaged many international clients such as Procter & Gamble, Kroger, Nestle, Home Depot and Coca-Cola. The team needed to support the company’s high level of growth has also rapidly expanded with more than 850 people now employed by dunnhumby. The fast-track growth has been helped by Edwina giving individuals the scope to solve problems through a ‘test and learn’ approach and providing them with the opportunity to quickly take on extra responsibility if they rise to the challenge of dunnhumby’s quickly-changing environment.
