How we shop and who we shop with has fundamentally changed in recent times, driven in part by increased human-connectedness. Powered by the uptake of mobile technology and the growth of social platforms, the retail industry is witnessing an explosion in direct ‘person to person’ commerce – the collaborative business models that form the basis of the Social Economy. With the potential to disrupt traditional retail, the Social Economy is forcing change in how businesses think about and behave towards their customers. This report looks at the challenges and opportunities the Social Economy presents retailers and CPGs.
