82% of US consumers think tech companies should be more heavily regulated in how they collect and use consumer data. Following the implementation of GDPR in May 2018, US retailers also operating in the EU learned first-hand of the significant changes and challenges to the way consumer data now must be collected, processed, and held. January 1, 2020, CCPA came into effect and became yet another regulation retailers must comply with or face significant financial penalties.
