dunnhumby was established in Malaysia in 2008 to help put the customer at the heart of Tesco’s business decisions — and those of its suppliers. Together, they develop insights based on the shopping behaviour of over 2.5 million people every week. dunnhumby Malaysia enables the companies with which it works, including Nestlé, Unilever, and P&G, to use this insight to deliver a better shopping experience and more relevant marketing to their customers.

The dunnhumby Malaysia team has a wealth of international experience ensuring that ranging, pricing, promotions, and other key retail decisions meet customers’ wants, needs, and desires. Customers repay that loyalty with their own, buying one more product, one more time - or put simply - growing clients’ brand value.

Ben Smith: Country Head, Malaysia

Ben’s strong belief in putting the customer at the centre of strategy led him to join dunnhumby Malaysia in March 2014. Initially focused on the growth of the Retail Consultancy and Media business, Ben moved into the role of Country Head and is excited about developing data and customer propositions in Malaysia to help companies gain competitive advantage.

Prior to dunnhumby, Ben spent 10 years in the UK retail market covering both commercial and marketing roles.

After graduation, Ben joined Arla Foods in Leeds, UK, where, over seven years, he developed through a number or commercial positions to his final role looking after their relationship with ASDA across both the Own Label and Branded business. During this time, Ben also spent two years seconded into Tesco working with them on their trade marketing — this is where Ben discovered his passion for insight and customer-first strategy.

Following Arla, Ben worked as the Commercial Controller for Britvic, looking after the total P&L for their Sainsbury’s business and focusing growth plans across all channels and routes to market.
